So this blog was really hard for me to post because it meant that I would have to admit to something I might otherwise prefer to keep quiet…I have begun reading the twilight series. Don’t worry it’s not as bad as it sounds, or at least that’s what I tell myself. I started it as a kind of social experiment, to figure out the impossible, how girls think. I know it’s impossible I’m not striving for complete understanding but just to be a step closer and I figured there is no better way than the only subject I’ve heard girls converse about amongst themselves. Apparently it was good timing as my boss, Todd Williamson, has also begun reading it after multiple requests from his obsessed wife. We have been able to complain about the juvenile writing styles and feel from reading the first book. We often have the same complaints and it always feels good to be able to share those frustrations. I mentioned to him feeling disgusted about when she referred to him as a greek god a couple of days ago and when he came into work today he said to me, “I got to the part you had been talking about a couple of days ago.”
Confused I replied, “What are you talking about.”
“He looked more like a greek god standing there.” Todd followed with a shout of disgust “Aaaaarghh!”
So yeah, I guess this book really does just bring us all together, just guys and girls in different ways. My personal favorite conversation came when discussing the book with my sister-in-law, Jen. I’ve always admired and respected Jen as an extremely mature, head-on-strait, smart kind of girl so I figured I could have a really good conversation with her about this book and see if its brain washing reach extends to those girls I consider more “sane” than most. The discussion started out just as I would have thought, Jen had the same complaints with the book that I did, with comments such as, “it feels as though it were written by a love sick 12 year old” or “you get sick of hearing how beautiful Edward is” etc. The best comment, however, came when she said, “It’s kind of ridiculous and unrealistic how they are declaring their profound love for each other after about two days.” It was a comment I completely agreed with and I voiced my support for her opinion, when something seemed to click in both of our minds at the same time and as I opened my mouth in protest she beat me to it, “Actually I guess that’s really hypocritical of me, I can’t say that.” For those of you who don’t know, Corey and Jen were engaged after about 2 ½ weeks of dating. We had a good laugh about that. So basically Bella…I mean Jen is ridiculous as well.
I’m going to keep this experiment up and I’ll try to keep you all informed. Guys I'm trying to help us all out.
